Karpal: It's Umno which did not show respect to sultans

(NST) KUALA LUMPUR: Karpal Singh, member of parliament for Bukit Gelugor, said it was not he who had been disrespectful to sultans but Umno.

Debating the royal address in Parliament yesterday, he said he did not understand why he had been labelled treasonous and seditious when in 1993 Umno led a constitutional amendment to clip the powers of rulers.

He said in 1984 he had highlighted in the House alleged wrongdoings by the then Tengku Mahkota of Johor.

In 1987, when the Sultan of Selangor declared that no amnesty would be given to those found guilty of distributing drugs in the state, Karpal filed a case against him.

"Both times, no one said I was being treasonous or seditious. Now, 20 police reports have been lodged against me, including one by Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor at the behest of the prime minister."

Reiterating that he had not challenged the power of the Sultan of Perak as head of Islam and Malay customs, Kar-pal said he had only stated that the ruler had no right to direct the menteri besar to withdraw the transfer order given to state Religious Department director Datuk Jamry Sury.

Karpal's speech did not go down well with Razali Ibra-him, member of parliament for Muar, who cited standing orders and requested the chair to stop Karpal's speech.

Razali said: "He should not be allowed to go on as his statement was made without filing an emergency motion. This is not an appropriate forum to talk about it. As for the police reports, wait for the police to finish their investigations."

After being advised by Deputy Speaker Datuk Ronald Kiandee, Karpal said Terengganu state exco member Da-tuk Rosol Wahid and 22 assemblymen initially did not agree with the sultan's choice of menteri besar.

"Doesn't their action constitute a challenge to the sultan? Will the government take action against them? If not, doesn't this constitute double standards? Why am I being victimised?" he said.

UMNO is a moronic mentality society who like to blame other people with the baseless accusation. I am absolutely agree with Mr. Karpal Singh about the matter above where he pointed out that King or Sultan doesn't have the right to eliminate someone from the goverment post and it was clearly mentioned in our sacred federal constitution.

I support you Mr. Karpal Singh with your strong opinion on that matter. The Law and Federal Constitution will help the people of Malaysia and not the monarchy system. I am strongly believed that whatever we do we must abide the the federal constitution and law rather to listen from the monarchy society who are enjoying with the tax payer money to survive.

Subsidy on diesel to go first, says Shahrir

By TEH ENG HOCK

KUALA LUMPUR: The restructured fuel subsidy scheme will see the removal of subsidy on diesel first.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Samad said diesel would soon be sold at the market rate at the pumps when a mechanism to deliver subsidies directly to those entitled has been decided upon.

“We are looking at diesel first, and how to ensure that subsidised diesel gets to the right groups, especially to the transport sector and (those involved in) certain economic activities which require diesel subsidy so that we can cut out leakages.

“Schoolbuses for example. We have to have a mechanism on how to deliver the diesel (subsidy) to the schoolbus drivers so that the cost of transport will not go up,” he said.

Without the subsidy, diesel will cost more than RM2 a litre. The price of diesel at the pump now is RM1.581 a litre.

Shahrir said the move to restructure the fuel subsidy was necessary to ensure the money was not wasted through various ways such as diesel smuggling.

“We want to look at diesel first, then obviously we will have to look at petrol subsidies,” he said.

Shahrir said crude oil prices were at US$117 (RM372) per barrel, and the Government spent RM33bil on fuel subsidies last year.

He said another RM20bil of subsidy was spent on natural gas to subsidise Tenaga Nasional Berhad’s power generation.

“You are talking about RM53bil. And that does not include the subsidised amount that people pay. Our oil export in 2007 was RM77bil.

“So it is almost one-to-one what we consume and what we export,” he said.

On the Food Security Policy, Shahrir said it had been discussed in Cabinet and the Agriculture Ministry would look into increasing production to counter inflation.

“What we have not resolved is the delivery and distribution to consumers. We need to take into account some things. For instance, I want uniform pricing for foodstuff in Sabah and Sarawak and the Peninsula.”

He added that the inflation of food prices was higher than the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which recorded 2.8% in March.

“We cannot use the CPI as an indication of inflation as it does not reflect the price rise in food. The CPI is a theoretical basket of goods based on the consumption of a theoretical average family.

“In the basket, there’s the food component, transport, clothing and so on. If you take out other components and only focus on the food component, then you will see that the (inflation) rate is higher than the CPI,” he said.

The crude oil price per barrel has significantly increased for the last few months where the current price has touched USD 117 per barrel. We cannot avoid the impact from the uncertainty global crude oil market due to the shortages of crude oil supply from the producer countries where the demand is constantly increased in China. OPEC plays a crucial role to determine the quantity of crude oil barrel that needs to be marketed in the global market. Saudi Arabia and other OPEC countries have taken an action to reduce its crude oil supply due to the several reasons (maybe political and self-interest).

Meanwhile, Malaysia is among the crude oil producer that suffer from the fluctuation of global crude oil price. In 2006, the crude oil production has been forecasted approximately 700,000 barrels per day where domestic consumption is about 500,000 barrels per day and 200,000 barrels per day is considered as a safety stock (Source: Energy Information Administration). From this we can see that, the Malaysian oil market price is not supposedly affected by the global crude oil market price which Malaysian's crude oil production is more than the actual consumption. Therefore, the Malaysia government should not determine the retail price for petrol & diesel base on the global market price.

The retail price for petrol and diesel should be determined base on the people capability to pay but not based on the global market price . The government think they can disillusion the people of Malaysia by giving the subsidy for petrol and diesel. By giving the subsidy only give an advantage for high income group and let the lower and middle groups are suffering with the current rising cost. The subsidy on diesel is not the wise option and mechanism to gain political support from people of Malaysia.

Malaysia crude oil is badly affected by global crude oil price because our crude oil is exported to another countries, therefore it will increase our country revenue in international trade. The revenue gain from export of crude oil was mismanaged by certain group of crook (in Petronas). So, we have to relying on the import of crude oil from other countries (producer of crude oil) to fill up the domestic demand.

My strategic advice for goverment is please stop or reduce our crude oil being exported to another countries and use it wisely to fill up our domestic demand. So we can fix the petrol and diesel price according to public capacity to pay. Increase in crude oil price will benefit certain of people (oxy moron in Petronas) plus several ministers and family, whereby the lower and middle income group will suffer at all.

I'm writing this base on the facts and analysis gathered when I was working as the analysts for world and Malaysia crude oil market and industry. In fact, Malaysian is rich country but momentarily being mismanaged by corrupted government administration.

Hidup Malaysia!!!!!!

'Ong and Karpal should apologise to the Tengku Mahkota'

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan People's Action Council (MTRK) said statements by certain parties that the speech by the Tengku Mahkota of Kelantan in Kuala Lumpur last week would destroy the unity and harmony among the various races, were extreme and an insult to the royal institution.

Council chairman Datuk Ibrahim Ali said those involved should apologise and called on the police to take take action against them under the Sedition Act, especially MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting and DAP chairman Karpal Singh. Ibrahim, who is also Pasir Mas MP, said the council supported the comments by the Tengku Mahkota when he opened a seminar on Malay unity at the Putra World Trade Centre last Saturday. "MTRK appreciates the concern shown by him and for the Malays to unite irrespective of their political affiliations. "What was voiced by him was a wake-up call for the Malays and should be received open heartedly," he said after a MTRK council meeting here yesterday.
The Tengku Makhota said the special rights and privileges of Malays were not to be questioned and that it was inappropriate for other races to demand equal privileges just because they had Malaysian citizenship. Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra said the Malays were given the special rights and privileges in exchange for granting citizenship to 2.7 million people of other races. Karpal had criticised the Tengku Mahkota for making political statements that were "on the verge of sedition". "The Tengku Mahkota should have known better than to issue statements with a political flavour," said Karpal. "Royalty in the country must stay apolitical. Conventionally, royalty is required to do so," he said, adding that "the tone of the statements of the Tengku Mahkota was an affront to the other races in the country". Ong said the Tengku Mahkota was wrong in saying that it is inappropriate for non-Malays to seek equal rights. He said the various races had worked hard to attain the goals of nation-building for the past 50 years, for which they also contributed to the country's development. As such, they too had equal rights as enshrined in the constitution, he said. Ibrahim said the Tengku Mahkota's speech was not only about the Malays but also on the importance of the Malaysian people. Source: NST online 20/04/2008

I don't know what is happened to our country. I agreed with the statement make by Karpal Singh and Ong Ka Ting the issue on equality of other races in Malaysia.

Ayo!!! What is this la.......?

Tengku Faris: Non-Malays should not seek equality

(Malaysiakini) Kelantan Crown Prince Tengku Faris Petra said today that Malays had been coerced into giving non-Malays citizenship and the latter should therefore not seek equality or special treatment.

He said this during his keynote speech at a forum titled "Malay unity is the core of national unity" organised by the newly formed Barisan Bertindak Perpaduan Melayu in Kuala Lumpur today.

Speaking to a crowd of about 1,000 people, Tengku Faris said the Malay rulers would be an umbrella to foster unity among all Malaysians, based on the Federal Constitution and the Rukun Negara.

"Therefore, the rakyat must unite and never raise issues regarding Malay rights and special privileges because it is a quid pro quo in gratitude for the giving in of citizenship (beri-paksa kerakyatan) to 2.7 million non-Malays into the Tanah Melayu federation.

"Thus, it is not appropriate for these other ethnic groups to have citizenship, only (later) to seek equality and privileges," said Tengku Faris, who read from a 11-page prepared text.

However, the crown prince stressed that in an effort to unite the Malays, non-Malays also have rights that must be protected, such as in areas of religion.

As an example, Tengku Faris said non-Malays are allowed to practice their respective religions in peace. They must however do so in accordance with the law and "not be provocative towards Islam".

"The Malay rulers are the head of the Islamic religion and Malaysia is a Islamic country (negara Islam), not secular. We have our own formula (as a country) which is different from others," he added, drawing thunderous applause from the crowd.

'Dominance'

He added that the effort to instil Malay unity and defend Malay special rights does not mean that other races would be ignored.

"In fact, if Malay rights and special privileges are taken care of and is not disturbed, it would ensure national harmony. It does not just benefit the Malays but all ethnic groups," he said.

In his speech, Tengku Raris said the 12th General Election results have shown that the Malays are being "challenged" and thus Malays unity is of the outmost priority.

"The election results have shown that the Malays are disunited and facing other ethnic groups who are more dominant politically and economically," he said.

As the constitution provides that the Malays are the natives (penduduk asal) of Malaysia, Tengku Faris said every Malay must defend the constitution and Islam and this can only be achieved through Malay unity.

"We have to make an effort to unite. Don't spilt up. Avoid polemics that can distance us. Ideology (and) having different interpretations does not contribute to Malay unity.

"Discussing about polemics such as Islamic state, secular state, welfare state... Confuses the people... Resulting from this confusion, Malays are becoming more disillusioned," he added.

Source from Malaysian Today

Why the crown prince speaks like that? I'm confused with the statement when he spoke to the public last weekend in public gathering and it was showed in local pro-government tv station for 5 minutes.

Honestly, I'm against the Islamic State. I do not think the Islamic countries or states exist in the world. Malaysia wants to be the one and pioneer for this (Go to hell). Do we need Islamic countries or state??????

Why we should be worried about the equality of right for non-malay. We afraid our country is being controlled by non-malay. They also called themselves as rakyat Malaysia and not rakyat from other countries. If they are qualified (trusted and educated) to manage and govern our country, we give them the opportunity. They also pay the taxes and give economy contribution to the Malaysia and the non-malay perform better than MALAY (think about this fellar) especially in education and employment. However, Malay people earn more privileged and speciality by the federal government with the non-malay tax payer money. Malay should feel ashamed on this (Malay Easy Forget quoted from Tun Mahathir).

BN lose in the last election not because of the disunity of Malay but the hopeless and useless BN government administration for the last 10 years that make rakyat suffered (especially lower and middle income groups) in terms of inequality of income distribution, inflation, government spending on unnecessary projects and corrupted judiciary system.

Go Non-Malay!! Fight for your own right. You have the right to shape the future of our country. In fact, the text writer for crown prince (I believed the crown prince did not wrote the text by himself or maybe otherwise) did not really understand the exact definition for ISLAM and is disillusioned with the polemics of islamic state and country.

When the BN lost in last general election, why put the blame on disunity of Malay and non-malay. The blame should be borne by the BN with the old school political ideology, polemics and manifesto. The foundation of BN is based on the racial political system. In other words, BN is encouraged racist ideology in this country.

Rakyat only want equality, transparency and integrity from all political leaders in Malaysia. Can BN promise that to the People of Malaysia (include Malay, Non-Malay and other indigenous groups)?
